Rose's New Friend

[Rose Scavengar]

With nothing in her stomache but the urge of getting her first pokemon, Rose arrived in haste at professor Elm's lab. Of course, she's been here many times, Elm being her mom's good friend, she learned much about pokemon and their habits in this very lab. But today was different. Today, Rose was going to meet a new friend.

The doors automatically opened as she crossed the enterance. She recognised some assistants and waved her arm at them.

- "Well, well! Rose is finally getting her pokemon!" said one of them.

- "Yup!" answered Rose, briefly. She was very excited.

She finally arrived at the end of the lab where a smoked-glass door was standing, with the name Prof. Elm engraved in silver on it.

She knocked.

[Chronos]

A muttered "Enter!" came from the other room.

Rose entered.

The room was totally white. The walls were covered with machines and bookshelves, all perfectly stored. An ebony table stood at the back of the room, and behind of it was prof. Elm.

"Well hello, Rose! You mother just called... Here to get your first pokemon as a trainer? I heard you wre very excited... Tell me, do you have any idea of what kind it would be?"

Professor Elm was now standing up and smiling to Rose. As the little girl may have known, Elm was a bit riddle-ish.

Rose just HOPED that prof. Elm wouldn't start off with his riddles...

Though, she thought of the question.

- "Well..." said Rose "I really can't decide on a specific type! I mean... I like the shadowness of dark and ghost-types... The determination and the will of fire-types, as well as the good tactics of the grass-types... I love the sharpness of steel-types and the cleverness of psychic-types."

Rose stopped. She was really confused.

[Chronos]

Prof. Elm giggled.

"Hahaha! Just like your mom, Rose, you cannot make up your mind! I guess I will have to suggest you one myself! Let's see..."

The professor walked to a glass cupboard and turn around to face Rose.

"Here are three starters. Each of a different type: grass, fire and water. However..."

This time, prof. Elm went straight towards his office door and gave Rose a sign to follow him.

"You see, I captured this pokemon some time ago... I think it would fit perfectly with your personality..."

Passing through the assistants and numberous bookshelves, they finally got to a card-locked room. Elm opened it with his pass and entered. This room was also white but had a sweet smell of cooked apples and cinnamon. A munching sound was coming from the middle of the room, but Rose couldn't see a thing.

"Rose, I present you Kecleon."

And as he turned towards the munching sound:

"It's allright, Kecleon, you can show yourself!"

The air in the center of the room began to define itself into a mass, to finally reveal a 3-foot-tall green and gold lizard-like pokemon.

Rose was stunned. She never saw anything like that! That pokemon just appeared out of nowhere!

- "How...?"

She crouched to approach the little lizard and looked at it straight in the eye. The pokemon didn't move.

- "Well, you're a cutie!"

Rose smiled. She sensed a strong bond between that pokemon and her... Was it all in her head? Rose brought her hand close to the Kecleon, but it disappeared once again! Though, this time, Rose saw the little red zigzag on the pokemon's chest that couldn't erase itself along with the rest of the body. It bounced arround for a few seconds, until it climbed up Rose's crouched back, to finally reappear.

- "I think he likes me!"

[Chronos]

Prof. Elm had his everlasting smile on his face. Indeed, Kecleon seemed to like Rose very much. It's been agressive to some assistants and even Elm couldn't touch it sometimes.

Kecleon sur seemed like a happy lizard right now!

''So, is it decided?'' asked Elm, cheerful.

[Rose Scavengar]

- "I guess... I guess so!" said Rose, happier than ever.

She wasn't expeting this! Of course, her curiosity would tend to check the first three strarters prof. Elm proposed at first, but Kecleon seemed so perfect!

- "I think I'll keep your name Kecleon!"

The pokemon seemed happy, and wasn't heavy at all, standing like that on Rose. She pat the lizard on the head.

- "Now, I guess I can have my trainer bundle!"

[Chronos]

Prof. Elm smiled.

- Well! I'm happy you chose Kecleon, Rose! I was afraid you'd hesitate, but you seem really sure of yourself! I'm very proud of you, and so will be your mother!... Of course, your father would've also been proud of you, Rose... I know this must be hard for you, but I really don't know where is your father since he disappeared. But I'm sur you'll meet him some day. Well! Let's see...

The professor took Rose back to his office, along with Kecleon. In the way, the assistants seemed very happy of Rose's new pokemon.

- So let's see in here for your starter's bundle...

Elm opened a glass cupboard and took some items in it. Then he turned back to Rose.

- Now here's a case for your 8 badges, a pokeball to catch your next pokemon, a potion to heal Kecleon on the road if needed - we hope not! - and a pokedex. Oh! of course, here's 3000 pkcash to start with!

ROSE recieved KECKLEON!

Rose put the items delicately in her bag.

- "Thank you very much, prof. Elm! I guess we'll be off to our first gym... Ready Kecleon?

- "Keckle, keckle... eon!" said the lizard pokemon.

And Ivy and her new friend were of to route 29, waving back at the professor.

- "Tell mom I'll call her from Cherrygrove City!"

She knew that she'll find out more about her dad along her adventure. But for now, she was too excited to enter once and for all the huge world of pokemon.

[Chronos]

Professor Elm waved back at Rose. He sighed.

*Daring, brave and ambitious... Just like her father.*

Elm went to his desk and opened his PC to call Cressa.

"Hello?" she answered.

"Hi Cressa! Just calling to say your daughter is heading for Cherrygrove City!"

"What? Oh..." Cressa smiled. "I guess she's got a bit of him. Well, make sure she's OK!"

"Not a problem. Besides, I'm sure she'll call from Cherrgrove or Violet City. She's heading for her first badge!"

"Haha, right... OK, mister! I got to get going, the pie's going to burn! See ya!"

The window closed.

And a new trainer was now on her journey to become a grand master!
